Aluminum railing painting

Balcony, pool and stair railings refinished in place, baluster by baluster. No removal, no shop visit.

Railings take the worst of the weather. Salt settles in the joints, the top rail fades first, and chalking spreads down every baluster. Once the old finish starts to lift, corrosion follows it.

We clean off salt and loose paint, sand the rough areas, mask the deck, glass and stone, then prime and spray multiple finish coats. Every face of every picket gets the same coverage, including the undersides you only see from below.

What we cover

Process

How the finish is made

On site, without removal.

  1. Inspect

We assess the existing coating and note oxidation, chalking and peeling.

  2. Clean & sand

Dirt, salt and loose paint come off. Rough areas are sanded smooth.

  3. Mask & prime

Glass, stone and surrounding surfaces are masked. A bonding primer made for metal goes on first.

  4. Finish coats

Multiple spray-applied coats build an even, uniform finish.

  5. Walkthrough

We clean up completely and review the work with you before we leave.

Questions

Railings: common questions

Can you paint railings without taking them down?

Yes. Railings are painted in place. The deck, glass and nearby surfaces are masked before any coating goes on.

How do you deal with salt near the ocean?

Salt is what breaks a finish down. We wash it out of every joint before priming, and a fresh-water rinse every few months keeps it from building up again.

Do you paint railings in condominium buildings?

Yes. We work with owners, boards and property managers and schedule around building rules and access.
